Show Me, Tell Me Driving-Test Questions
During your car driving test, the examiner will ask two vehicle-safety questions. You will normally answer one “tell me” question before driving and demonstrate one “show me” task while driving.
An incorrect answer to one or both questions normally results in one driving fault. You could fail if your driving becomes dangerous or potentially dangerous while completing the “show me” task.
Show Me Questions
When it is safe, you may be asked to demonstrate how you would:
- Wash and clean the rear windscreen
- Wash and clean the front windscreen
- Switch on the dipped headlights
- Set the rear demister
- Operate the horn
- Demist the front windscreen
- Open and close a side window
Tell Me Questions
You may be asked to explain checks involving brakes, tyre pressures and condition, head restraints, lights, indicators, brake lights, power-assisted steering, fog lights, main beam, engine oil, coolant or brake fluid.
Controls vary between vehicles. Your instructor can help you locate and operate the controls in the car used for your lessons.
